Leah and Sina

Leah and Sina's day began in the back house of empl.friseure in Glonn. The rings lay on the table next to perfume, stationery and a bouquet in yellow and pale violet, the dress hung ready, and the hairstyle took shape in the mirror.

I like to photograph mornings like this in full, including the bottle being opened and the four people laughing together around it. In the evening you see again who was already there in the morning, and that is often the part that means the most later on.

Next door, the bow tie for the light grey suit was straightened. Later the bride stood on the balcony with her long train and looked over the railing before it was time to get into the car.

The ceremony took place at Galanthus by Bisteria in Piusheim, part of Baiern. The chairs stood on the meadow beneath a light sunshade, with the guests close around the two of them.

There was laughter, both read their words from the page, and for the kiss I brought the guests into the picture too. Inside there is a glasshouse with long tables, a lovely combination for a ceremony outside and a celebration inside.

Afterwards there was a toast, canapés on round wooden boards, and everyone moved close together for the group photos. Group photos go quickly when it is clear beforehand who should be in them. I gather people and arrange them so nobody waits long in the sun, and then everyone is back with their drinks.

For the couple portraits we walked a few steps: a light wall surrounded by greenery, a stone staircase, and once the veil, beneath which the two of them stood close together. Later they sat in an open vintage car and laughed more than they posed. That is exactly what matters to me. That afternoon they also cut the cake with the red berries together.

The small white Ape in these pictures belongs to the two of them. Under the name APE-ritif Bar München Leah and Sina rent out the Piaggio Ape as a mobile bar, an idea they had while planning their own wedding. Here they stand in their wedding outfits next to their own project.

On the meadow the Ape was decorated with flowers and wood, the counter open, the lettering above it and the mountains behind. For couple portraits an object like this is worth a lot: it gives you something to do, keeps your hands busy, and it belongs to you instead of just being a backdrop.

Flowers stood in front of the glass walls, with the laid table already visible behind them. Outside the light grew softer, and for that I like to take couples away from their celebration for a moment. Twenty minutes is usually enough, and nobody misses you for that long.

Leah and Sina walked across the meadow once more, first hand in hand, then a little apart with the dress in motion. A kiss against the light with the bouquet between them, and shortly afterwards just two silhouettes against the evening sky. The same quarter of an hour, two completely different pictures.

Inside, long wooden tables stood beneath drapes and fairy lights, with evening light still coming through the windows. Plates were passed along, and the guests sat close together.

Later everyone gathered around the dance floor. Leah and Sina danced in the middle, then it filled up, and at some point there were only raised hands and colourful light. The last picture of this day is the party, reflected in a window pane.

I like to stay a while in the evening. By then the quiet morning at the hairdresser has become a whole night, and you only see that arc when both ends have been photographed.
